The Cornerstone Development Authority
Welcome to the Cornerstone Development Authority (CDA). The CDA is a Downtown Development Authority under state statute (1975 PA 197). It was established in 1988 to halt property value deterioration, eliminate the causes of deterioration, and to promote economic growth in Southeastern Southfield. The Cornerstone Development Authority consists of a 13-member Board of Directors and is staffed by two full-time employees.
In 2000, the Cornerstone Development Authority designated the area within its boundaries as the Cornerstone District – Southfield. This special District has had numerous successes since its establishment. By updating its Strategic Plan and Development Plan, the CDA hopes to continue promoting economic growth well into the future.
Cornerstone Development Authority Mission
To enhance the environment by making the district one in which people feel comfortable and secure as a place to live, work, shop, learn and be entertained and to strengthen its economic vitality and physical appearance.
The Cornerstone Development Authority is working hard to improve the Cornerstone District through the following key efforts:
1. Connections - Create clear, attractive and well-functioning connections throughout the District. The connections should be multi-modal, accommodating vehicles, pedestrians, and non-motorized travel.
2. District Character - Enhance the overall character of the District as a vibrant mixed use place with entertainment, destination retail, office space and support services. Buildings should be located close to the street and on-street parking should be provided to create a walkable, pedestrian oriented environment.
3. Infrastructure and Aesthetics - Continue to support and implement streetscape, landscaping, lighting, parking, infrastructure and aesthetic improvements to ensure the District is an attractive, welcoming, distinctive and comfortable place.
4. Development and Redevelopment - Facilitate development, redevelopment and reinvestment in the District’s properties consistent with its Strategic Plan.
5. Economic Health and Vitality - Support and enhance the District’s economic health and vitality through a targeted strategy of business and economic development programs and incentives for recruitment, retention, development and redevelopment.
